"Our vision is of communities where people and pets come together for mutual benefit. Always keeping the bold promise to care for each other."

My name is Eleanor Scheidemann. I am the CEO of The Dog Lady, Inc. and the President of Last Chance for Love Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation, Inc. – but this web site is not about me; it is about YOU.

It is about YOU who have pets; YOU who have relationships with your pets and through those relationships know what animals can do to improve the human condition.

This non-profit organization has been founded to build on just this knowledge. We want to improve the current system of how we bring pets to people, educate people about having pets in their homes and rehabilitate rescue dog and cats. We are committed to doing this for YOU and your pets.

The only way to be sure YOUR pet will always be cared for is to make sure that all pets are cared for.

Those that love animals and value them also know that sharing a home with some of them is difficult. Sadly, to often when pets get difficult; they become disposable. Many people are trying to change this by rescuing and re-homing as many dog and cats as are fit. Though their efforts are courageous the fact remains that we still breed and sell millions of dogs and cats annually that end up surrendered to shelters and have to be destroyed because their behaviors (by human standards) become unacceptable and/or dangerous. Then we go buy a new one and try again.

We all know why this happens.

We do not breed bad dogs and cats, we raise them. With few exceptions, every puppy and kitten has the same potential to be a loving well adjusted companion pet or an unwanted rescue dog or cat with unacceptable behaviors. We use them as we need for our benefit and we do not keep our promise to care for them for life. You're not doing this, you say? It doesn't matter if it's not YOU specifically. If it is happening in our community then we all should be doing something about it!

Who would argue that our commitment to keep our promise is not a worthwhile one? But, in order to make changes and offer alternatives to the current system of euthanizing pets with behavior problems, we must first deal with the reality of where we are:

Only 10% of the 75 million dogs in the US were adopted from a shelter.

It is likely that over 10 million dogs and cats are euthanized annually.

Animals are considered property.

Killing animals is popular and easy.

Good people voices are silent when they should be shouting.

Our system is based on economics. Money talks, lots of money shouts!

Read through this web site and find out how, with your support, a group of dedicated people are ready to change something that so desperately needs to be changed.

Can a small group of dedicated people change the world? They are the only ones that ever have.

Through the generosity of pet lovers Last Chance for Love Animal Rescue will become a movement that changes the way the world views pet ownership.

"We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give."
